In a groundbreaking deal, Amazon Prime Video, one of the world’s leading over-the-top platforms, has secured exclusive broadcasting rights for all events organized by the Apex Cricket Council in Australia for four years, commencing 2024. This landmark agreement extends until the conclusion of the 2027 ODI World Cup, ensuring that Australian cricket fans can enjoy comprehensive coverage of the world’s most prestigious cricket tournaments only on the streaming platform.

The acquisition of these coveted rights marks a significant milestone for Amazon Prime, further solidifying its position as a premier destination for premium sports content. Australian cricket enthusiasts will now need a Prime Video subscription for unrivaled access to a comprehensive array of World events, including the Men’s and Women’s Cricket World Cups, Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups, Champions Trophy, U19 World Cups, and the World Test Championship Finals.

Amazon Prime holds New Zealand’s rights for home matches in India

Amazon Prime Video’s commitment to delivering exceptional sporting experiences is evident in its plans to provide extensive coverage of global events, encompassing live matches and in-depth analysis. With this strategic move, Prime Video has expanded its sports portfolio, adding to its already impressive lineup of live sports offerings. In a departure from Australia’s long-standing tradition of cricket broadcasting on traditional television platforms, Amazon has emerged as the surprise victor. This deal marks a significant shift in the Australian sports broadcasting landscape, as it breaks away from the established dominance of Channel 9, Fox, and Seven.

This news was first reported by ‘The Age’ on this morning. Later in the day, Apex Council and Amazon Prime Video confirmed the deal. “The new partnership, which begins in January 2024, will give cricket fans across Australia exclusive access to all matches in every tournament of elite ICC competitions in all cricket formats, at no extra cost to a Prime membership,” the council said in a statement.
The highly anticipated 2024 T20 World Cup, set to take place in the captivating landscapes of the United States and the Caribbean Islands, will be the first event to be exclusively broadcast on Amazon Prime Video as part of this deal.
