Cricketers are known for their big hits on the field. They love to hit the ball out of the park and when they do so, the commentators compare the swing of the cricket bat with the swing of the golf club. This is a comparison used on air by cricket broadcasters often when the batters play a shot straight down the ground.
A lot of cricketers play golf in their pastime as hobby, one of them being Mahendra Singh Dhoni. MS Dhoni’s love for golf is not very well known so it was a very rare sight for the fans. No wonder the former world cup winning captain was famous for hitting the big hits into the stands. The secret behind this would have been the golf-like swing.
The World Cup-winning captain has won 2 world cup trophies in the sport of cricket. He led a young side to clinch the inaugural 20-20 World Cup in 2007. It was the first World Cup of its kind and Mahendra Singh Dhoni led India to glory on the world stage in his initial years of captaincy.
Then, he repeated the feat four years later on home soil in 2011. He led a team full of experienced names in Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan and got India a 50-over World Cup after 28 years on Indian soil. He finished the feat with a six off Nuvan Kulasekara in front of a packed crowd in Mumbai at the Wankhede stadium to send huge celebrations across the country.
Kapil Dev has been playing the sport for the last many years. The duo was, recently, seen playing the sport in the Kapil Dev – Grant Thornton Invitational 2022 event. The 2011 World Cup winner was invited by Kapil himself. He has played golf for the first time since the Indian T20 League 2022.
