‘LSG match jeet liya but Rinku Singh ne dil jeet li’- Fans react as LSG beat KKR by 1 run to book a playoffs berth in IPL 2023
The Kolkata Knight Riders and the Lucknow Super Giants squared up against each other at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. KKR got lucky with the coin and opted to bowl first. LSG did not get off to the best of starts as Karan Sharma was caught by Shardul Thakur off Harshit Rana. Quinton de Kock made 28 off 27 balls with two sixes. He was caught by Andre Russell off Varun Chakravarthy looking to up the ante.
Prerak Mankad made a bright and breezy 26 off 20 balls with five fours. He was caught by Harshit Rana off Vaibhav Arora. Marcus Stoinis, the star player of the last game, didn’t trouble the bowlers. He was Vaibhav’s second wicket. Krunal Pandya was sent back by Sunil Narine. At 73-5, it was looking pear-shaped for the LSG, but Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran resurrected the innings. Pooran blasted the ball to all parts in his stroke-filled 58 off 30 with four fours and five sixes.
Rinku Singh made 67 off 33 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders
Pooran was eventually shown the door by Thakur. Badoni played a wonderful supporting role with Pooran. He made a valuable 25 off 21 balls with two fours and one six. In the end, a little cameo from Krishnappa Gowtham consisting of 11 off 4 balls with a four and a six gave LSG the perfect finish. They ended on 176-8 in their 20 overs.
Vaibhav was KKR’s best bowler. The right-arm pacer finished with excellent figures of 2-30 in his four overs. In the second innings, KKR got off to a good start, courtesy of Jason Roy and Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer made a quick-fire 24 off 15 balls with three fours and one six. Roy made 45 off 28 balls with seven fours and one six. Iyer was caught by Ravi Bishnoi off Gowtham and Roy was castled by Pandya.
Bishnoi later sent Nitish Rana packing quickly. Rahamanullah Gurubaz was dismissed by Yash Thakur. Bishnoi saved his best for the last as he had Russell clean-bowled to turn the match on its head. Yash picked up Shardul to get his second wicket. Rinku Singh played a promising innings off 67 off 33 balls with six fours and four sixes he took the game to the last over with his big hitting, but in the end, LSG won a close game by 1 run.

So both the new franchises (GT & LSG) qualified for the playoffs for the second time in a row. Tbh, I laughed at LSG's auction this year but they silenced many with their performances. Congratulations 👏. #KKRvLSG #KKRvsLSG
