The player draft for the Lanka Premier League 2022 was successfully held on Wednesday as the five teams bid for the star cricketers. Before the Draft, all five franchises – Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Dambulla Giants, Colombo Stars, and Kandy Falcons have submitted their full list of retained players and direct signings for the upcoming season.

As per the rules, the franchises could retain up to six players, four local and two foreign from the previous year’s squad. They could also directly sign two local and two foreign players ahead of the player draft.

Lanka Premier League season 3 will start on 31st, July 2022. The venues for the tournament will be R. Premadasa International Stadium, Colombo, and Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota.

The defending Champions, Jaffna Kings have retained their skipper Thisara Perera and Pakistan batter Shoaib Malik among other players. The direct signings of foreign players include Evin Lewis and Hardus Vilojen.

Dambulla Giants also retained their skipper Dasun Shanaka. Australian All-rounder Ben-cutting is one of the foreign signings for the Giants. Galle Gladiators have retained Sarfaraz Ahmed, Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis among others.

Kandy Falcons have made two crucial local pre-draft signings with Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne. They have made two international signings in West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite and Australian spinner Chris Green.

The most expensive international players from the draft were Carlos Braithwaite, Dwaine Pretorius and Imad Wasim. All these players were in the ‘international ruby’ category with a base price of 60,000 USD. There were separate Ruby, Sapphire, Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Silver categories for both international and Sri Lankan Players.
