On Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2022, weightlifter Lovepreet Singh paid a heartfelt tribute to Late Sidhu Moose Wala after playing his final match event on Wednesday. Lovepreet Singh participated in the 109 kg category and lifted a total of 355 kg in snatch and ‘clean and jerk’ rounds and bagged the Bronze medal.
Lovepreet Singh, who was gunning for gold, missed out on the gold medal by a narrow margin, despite having made six successful consecutive attempts. He celebrated by hitting his hand on his thigh in Moose Wala style. Singh is said to be an ardent fan of the late singer. He did this after one of his successful attempts at the event.
“I could not have been happier. This was my first big competition on the international stage and I produced my best ever show to return with a medal”, He told Times of India in an interaction.

Lovepreet Singh put on a superb show in the snatch round as he proved successful in all three attempts. He lifted 157 kg, 161 kg and 163 kg three rounds. Pictures and clips of Lovepreet Singh paying warm tribute to Moose Wala have gone viral across social media.
Meanwhile, before Lovepreet, Indian weightlifter, Vikas Thakur, also remembered Moose Wala by celebrating his medal win in the same style on Tuesday. Taking about Sidhu Moose Wala, he was brutally hit by several gangsters on May 29 this year in Mansa district of Punjab. The accused opened fire on Moose Wala’s car in what seems like a rivalry act. The singer was rushed to the hospital and was declared brought dead on observation by the medical staff.
“It is called a Punjabi Thaapi ( High Five}”, Lovepreet Singh told the media after the 109 kg medal ceremony was over. He said that it was his way of showing respect to his favourite singer.
