Dinesh Karthik has not had a good time with the bat in the 20-20 World Cup 2022 so far. He was seen as the one who would finish games for India. But it has not transpired for him in the tournament so far. He has scored just 1 and 6 against Pakistan and South Africa respectively.

Karthik could not finish the game against Pakistan as he was stumped off Mohammad Nawaz while trying to play a slog sweep. He did not bat in the game against the Netherlands and in the game against South Africa, he was not able to adjust to the bounce at the Optus stadium which was one of the fastest pitches to play on. He was all at sea and perished trying to play the short ball off Wayne Parnell for just 6 off 15 balls.

Pragyan Ojha had his take on the issue as he said that Karthik has to perform for those who have backed him and selected him into the Indian Team. He put up wonderful performances in the Indian T20 League. He was given the role to finish games for India as the finisher. He scored a lot of runs in first-class and T20 cricket and earned an Indian recall due to his consistent performances.

That’s the difference because both the bowling units did their job: Ojha

“Dinesh Karthik, who was given a long rope and the trust was put on him, I think he should think about it. He is an experienced player; you want your senior-most players to come and deliver. That’s what David Miller did for his side. We were a few runs short. If you looked at the South African batting, they had a very solid middle-order, they have been getting those runs,” Ojha said on Sports Tak.

He went on to talk about the differential point of the match between India and South Africa. He said that the South African bowling was leaps and bounds better than India as they utilised the conditions at Perth and had reduced India to 49/5 before keeping them down to just 133 in their 20 overs.

“That’s the difference because both the bowling units did their job. India should be pleased because the game went on till the last over and that’s where it was decided. When you talk about batting, I felt very strongly that South African batters play to the situation and we did not play to the situation, apart from the middle-order,” Ojha pointed out.
