Shoaib Akhtar has been hogging the headlines again. This time he has lashed out at his former teammate Kamran Akmal. Akhtar took a sly dig at the former wicketkeeper batter for his communication skills during a live discussion in a video that has created a storm on social media. The two were roped in as cricket experts on a Pakistan news channel.

“Kami is our match winner…he must be listening to this,” Shoaib Akhtar said. “He has played really well for Pakistan. Mai sun raha tha, ye bhi keh raha tha sakreen…sakreen ni hota hai, screen hota hai (I heard him speak, he was saying ‘sakreen’. It’s screen and not sakreen),” Akhtar told Pakistan’s ARY News. During the discussion, Akhtar slammed Akmal on his speaking skills.

It looks awkward in the presentation – Shoaib Akhtar on Babar Azam’s English speaking skills

In an interview earlier, Akhtar lambasted Pakistan skipper Babar Azam for his poor oratory skills. He further went on to say that Babar could not become a big figure in Pakistan because of his inability to speak English. In an interview with Cricket Pakistan, the Rawalpindi express had said that he had received an offer in 2002 but due to instability in the Pakistan Cricket Board he refused.

Abhi aap dekh le, koi character nahi team mein. Naa koi baat karne ka tarika. (You can see there’s no character in the team, nor do they know how to talk.) How awkward it looks when they come to the presentation. Kitna mushkil hai English seekhna aur baat krna? (How difficult is it to learn and speak English?). Cricket is one job, and handling media is another. If you can’t speak, I am sorry, but you won’t be able to express yourself on TV,” he had told earlier in an interview with Suno News on Babar Azam’s communication skills.

The former right-arm fast bowler was an X factor for Pakistan right through his career with his extra pace. He also holds the record for bowling the fastest ball in International Cricket in 2002 against New Zealand. He picked up 247 ODI wickets for the Men in Green.
