Argentina faced Mexico in a Group C match following their humiliating defeat against Saudi Arabia in their opening match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 hosted by Qatar. La Albiceleste looked in great shape and started the match with more purpose.

Argentina dominated the first ten minutes of the game, despite Mexico’s strong defence, which prevented Lionel Messi and his team from taking an early lead in the epic match, which could have been an elimination game for them if they lost.

Argentina had better pass accuracy and in comparison to the previous match, to add to the first half. The team appeared to be in good spirits and on track to easily win the three points. Mexico worked hard to contain the fiery Argentinians, but the latter continued to create chances from all sides of the field.

With the first half ending 0-0, Mexico got off to a confident start in the second half, and the team ended up goalless despite being subpar. The Argentine captain was the first to score in the match as he put his team in a winning position.

On Saturday, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner drew level with Maradona with eight World Cup goals and a tournament-record 21 appearances for his country. In the 64th minute, he broke the deadlock, finishing exquisitely beyond the reach of Mexican cult hero Guillermo Ochoa, with Enzo Fernandez adding a brilliant second late on.

Argentina gave it their all in a game that was a must-win for them because a loss would potentially knock them out of the world’s largest sporting event. Argentina eventually won the game 2-0 thanks to a goal from Lionel Messi in the 64th minute and another one from Enzo Fernández in the 87th minute. If Argentina advances to the next round, it will be remembered as one of the greatest comebacks in football history.
