In the ongoing first T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan, the Asian side won the toss and elected to bowl first at the small ground in Auckland. The visitors are led by Shaheen Afridi for the first time after being named as captain in the shortest format of the game. However, so far, the decision has been proven wrong for the team.

After losing Devon Conway to Afridi, the T20 World Cup 2021 finalists have managed to keep the scoring rate going. The Lahore Qalandars captain started well in his bowling as he took the wicket of Conway and conceded only a run. However, in the left-arm pacer’s next over, Finn Allen took him down for 24 runs, including a dot ball.

During the over, the former RCB player started the over with a six, followed by three back-to-back fours and a six and a dot to end.

Shaheen Afridi picks an expensive three-for and New Zealand finishes 226/8

Apart from getting hit for 24 runs, the former Pakistan U19 player didn’t get much respite with the ball. Even though he picked the wickets of Daryl Mitchell and Adam Milne later, Afridi got hit for 46 runs in his four overs. Apart from him, debutants, Usama Mir and Abbas Afridi had a tough day with the ball. They conceded 55/0 and 34/3 respectively in their quota of four overs each. Haris Rauf (34/2) and Aamer Jamal (55/0) also had a bad day too.

Talking about New Zealand’s efforts, Allen (34) provided a good start with skipper Kane Williamson struggling for a while. The latter later picked up the pace and scored 57 off 42 balls. On the other hand, Daryl Mitchell plundered 61 off 27 balls while Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman played cameos. In the end, the Blackcaps amassed 226/8 at the end of the innings. In reply, the former T20 World Cup champions have reached 29/0 in two overs with Saim Ayub getting 27 off eight balls.
