The Lankan Premier League which is the flagship tournament is all set to host its third edition. According to the media statement on 12th July 2022, Lanka Premier League 2022 will commence on the 1st August 2022 with Jaffna Kings, the reigning champions taking on Galle Gladiators, who were the runner-up of the year 2021 edition, in the first game.
The first 14 games will be played at the RPICS, Colombo, whilst the tournament will move into MRICS, Hambantota, starting from 13th August 2022.

The Lanka Premier League, abbreviated as LPL, is a professional cricket league in Sri Lanka in Twenty Twenty format, which is contested every year by teams representing Sri Lankan citieS. The league was founded by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018. In August 2020, Ravin Wickramaratne , the Vice President of SLC was officially appointed as the director of the tournament.
Originally, the first season was supposed to be held from 18 August to 10 September 2018, but postponed multiple times due to administrative issues within SLC. In June 2020, amidst the coronavirus pandemic in 2019 , SLC announced the tournament would start on 28 August 2020, with 70 overseas players showing interest in playing in the league. After being rescheduled many times due to restrictions for the pandemic, the first season began on 26 November 2020.
