Babar Azam was dismissed when Pakistan needed him most as he got out to Michael Bracewell on day 3 of the 2nd Test. It was a short delivery that was spinning sharply around the off stump. Babar got struck in the crease as he tried to tuck the ball onto the leg side but he was unsuccessful and got a faint edge.

Tom Latham took a sharp catch behind the stumps. Babar made 27 off 41 balls with five fours before he was dismissed. The Pakistan skipper fell cheaply in the first innings in the second Test as well as he was run out in a comical mix-up with Inam-ul- Haq. He made just 24 off 41 balls with three fours and one six.

The Pakistan skipper has been very inconsistent and patchy with his form. The Pakistan side had been under pressure after losing a Test series 3-0 against England before New Zealand descended on Pakistan shores. There has also been a lot of talk about the pitches in Pakistan. The pitches have been labelled as flat roads, dead and lifeless.

Simon Doull recently took a dig at Babar and said that if such flat, dead and lifeless pitches are being prepared due to a directive that has been issued by Babar and it would then improve his averages in Tests.

“Where does that directive come from? Does that come from Babar who wants to bat on a road and improve his own stats?” Doull questioned. “Does it come from above him?” the co-commentator responded.

In the first Test, the Pakistan captain led the way with the bat in the first innings by scoring a fine 161 off 280 balls with 15 fours and 1 six. He revitalized Pakistan with a superb partnership with Sarfraz Ahmed, who was playing his 50th Test. Pakistan were reeling at 82-3 when Sarfraz and Babar started to rebuild. Sarfraz scored a fine 86 on his Test cricket comeback.

Twitter was miffed with Babar’s early dismissal in the second innings. Let us take a look at the reactions here:
