It appears that rising tensions between India and Pakistan have been diffused at the moment. There are some reports coming in that Pakistan will send its security team to India to check the arrangements ahead of the 2023 World Cup. This is what a Pakistani journalist covering the story said.

He further went on to add that Pakistan will send its security team to India to check the venues for the World Cup and to ensure the safety of Pakistan players. In 2016, Pakistan’s security team requested the Cricket Governing Body to change Dharamsala and India vs Pakistan was shifted to Kolkata in the T20 WC. The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India for the first time since 2011 when India became World Champions.

India and Pakistan have largely played each other in World events and Asia Cups

India and Pakistan had a bitter standoff with regard to the hosting of the 2023 Asia Cup. Pakistan were the designated hosts of the tournament. But now, it appears that the multilateral competition will be held in Sri Lanka. Pakistan had a tense situation of civil unrest unfolding when Imran Khan was arrested recently. Sri Lankan Cricket and the Bangladesh Cricket Board did not give the go-ahead to host the tournament in Pakistan after things went out of hand.

With regards to Asia Cup 2023, it appears that the tournament is hanging in thin air. The Pakistan Cricket Board, in order to diffuse the tensions with the Indian Cricket Board, had suggested a hybrid model. They said that India’s games will be held at a neutral venue while the rest of the tournament would take place in Pakistan.

Jay Shah, the Indian Cricket Board secretary, had stated that India cannot travel to Pakistan without getting the requisite government approvals. The PCB then retaliated by saying if India will not play in the Asia Cup in Pakistan, then the Men in Green will not make it to India to play in the 2023 World Cup. Now it looks like things have been sorted between both parties.
