‘Kya nek kaam kiya Siraj ne’ – Fans react as Mohammad Siraj dedicates his Man of the Match award to ground staff

India won the Asia Cup 2023 by defeating Sri Lanka in the final by 10 wickets. It was a dominating win for the Indian team in the final, as they completely outplayed the Sri Lankan team in all facets of the game. Particularly with the ball, the Indian team had a memorable outing. Mohammad Siraj bowled the spell of his life and helped India to win the match by 10 wickets. 

Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka were in trouble straightaway. Siraj and other Indian pacers ran through the batting order of Sri Lanka. Bumrah provided a good start by claiming the wicket of Kusal Perera. What followed it was the domination of Siraj. The Indian pacer claimed 6 wickets in his 7 overs including a maiden over and changed the game completely.  

Siraj claimed the wickets of Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya De Silva, and Dasun Shanka. None of them had any answer to the pace, swing, and seam of the Indian bowler. The 29-year-old used the conditions well and gave a perfect start to the Indian team. The start was so good that Sri Lanka could never recover from it. 

This cash prize goes to the groundsmen – Mohammad Siraj

India had to chase just 51 runs in their 50 overs. Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill were sent to chase the target. The duo exactly did that in just 6.1 overs. Siraj was awarded the Player of the Match for his amazing spell in the match. In a sweet gesture, the Hyderabad-born bowler awarded his Player of the Match award to the ground staff, who did a very good job throughout the tournament.  

Siraj spoke about his performance in the match during the post-match conference. “When there’s good bonding between fast bowlers, it’s helpful for the team. I was thinking it would be great if I could stop the boundary. My best spell. This cash prize goes to the groundmen. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without them,” said the Indian pace bowler.
