Shreyanka Patil has been a revelation for India at the ACC Women’s Emerging Team’s Asia Cup. She picked up a four-wicket haul and conceded just 13 runs in her four-over burst. This meant that Bangladesh were bowled out for 96 while chasing a target of 127 in the final. The summit clash took place at the Mong Kok Stadium in Hong Kong. Patil, while speaking at the post-match presentation said, “aggression comes naturally to me because I’ve been a big Virat Kohli fan since childhood. I love to play under pressure”.

Patil had also picked up a five-wicket haul against Hong Kong in the same tournament. She has been in top form with the ball for India in the multilateral tournament. Patil also saw Kohli up close at the Women’s Indian Premier League (WPL) where she got picked up for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB did not have the best of seasons in the inaugural edition. The Smriti Mandhana-led side registered two wins and six losses and ended the season with four points.

When the season was down in the dumps for RCB, Virat Kohli joined the Women’s Team in a pep talk and motivated and reenergized the side. This helped RCB win their last two games and end their tournament on a high note. Patil was a big positive for RCB as well with her performances with bat and ball. She was the biggest star for her franchise in what had been an underwhelming season.

Patil is the daughter of a former Karnataka cricketer. She has taken rapid strides since her introduction to the WPL. Now she has donned the India jersey and represented the national side in a high-quality tournament like the ACC Women’s Emerging Team’s Asia Cup. It should be onwards and upwards for a player like Shreyanka who has put the hard yards in junior age group cricket. The all-rounder will hope to put up bigger and better performances come the next edition of the WPL.
