‘Kya mast PR chal raha hai bhai ka’ – Fans react as reports of Rishabh Pant joining Delhi for the first game in Indian T20 League surface
Rishabh Pant is still recovering from injuries that he sustained from the car accident in 2022. The wicket-keeper batter will attend Delhi’s first home game of the Indian T20 League 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The development was confirmed by the Delhi District Cricket Association on April 3. Pant will set foot in a stadium for the first time since the accident in 2022. Pant will be there at the ground for the game against Gujarat.
“There’s good news for our spectators’ tomorrow. Despite his injury, Rishabh Pant is coming to support his team. He is a star of Delhi. I hope spectators will give him a clap that he is coming among his cricketers despite such injury,” Rajan Manchanda said as quoted by the Times of India. Pant might also get to sit in the Delhi team dugout. This can happen if the requisite formalities are met with the Indian Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ASCU).
“Rishabh has always been an integral part of Delhi Capitals. There is a high possibility that he will be present for the season’s first home game against GT on Tuesday. He will definitely be in the team owner’s box but if ACSU allows, he might also sit for some time in the team dug-out,” quoted as saying by Times Now.
Pant had met with a near-death car accident in December 2022 when he was driving from Delhi to Roorkee. The left-hander suffered a knee injury. Then he underwent surgery on his right knee. The India player is currently undergoing rehab. The Delhi team had hung out Pant’s jersey no 17 in their game against Lucknow. This stunt did not please the Indian Cricket Board one bit. The Delhi team said that they did this to show Pant being with the team in spirit.
As quoted by Times Now, the Indian Cricket Board said that there was no need for gestures like these. The Board clarified that things like this were “a bit over the top” and were at one level “uncalled for”. Delhi lost their first game against Lucknow by 50 runs at the Ekana Stadium.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
This is all Ricky Ponting efforts, he was very vocal from the start to make Rishabh Pant presence felt in DC squad either by hanging his jersey or inviting him personally ❤️
