The Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan has started with the toss. The Indian captain Rohit Sharma called it right and elected to bat first. As Sharma was asked for the team, the team for India was announced. There were some surprising calls, which were in the expected lines, as a team with so many good players can be bound to controversial picks.

The Indian team for the match against Pakistan is – Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammad Siraj. On paper, the playing XI of the Indian team is very good. But the fans have mixed opinions about the selected XI, as they have their preferences.

Bumrah returns and Shami left out in the Playing XI for India

The big miss in the playing XI is Mohammed Shami, who has been a very good bowler for India over the years. Usually, Shami is preferred by the Indian team in the playing XI. But since Shami has not played many matches after the final of the World Test Championship 2023, and since the other pacers have better records than Shami in recent years, the world-class bowler might probably be left out of the XI.

The fact that Shardul Thakur can break big partnerships and bat a lot better than a normal lower-order batter does has probably given him an edge over someone like Shami. Shardul has better numbers than Shami in the last few months in ODIs. But the fans feel that Shami should have been in the XI, which is not a bad opinion to have, as the right-arm quick is a world-class bowler.

The Indian team for the match is very good. The openers have the ability to play long innings. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan can be trusted to come good. The all-rounders like Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja can be expected to play important roles. The bowling unit looks good with the comeback of Jasprit Bumrah.

Perfect XI. This is very similar to what we might see in the World Cup. Maybe KL in place of Shreyas but more or less the team will remain same. We need the mix of all-rounders on the team.
