‘Kya idea hai sirji’ – Fans troll Ricky Ponting after he says India should look at KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as primary wicketkeepers for 2023 WC

The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India. This is the first time the tournament will be held here since 2011. India has not won a World event for a long time. They will want to break the jinx at home. The last time India won a world event was in 2013. When the World Cup was held in India in 2011, India won the trophy. India recently lost an ODI series 2-1 against Australia at home.

Ahead of the World Cup, Ricky Ponting said that India should go ahead with KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as wicketkeepers in the World Cup. Ponting is of the opinion that Rahul could be best suited for India when he bats at number 5. Rahul has been batting in the middle order for India recently and has done a very good job with the bat.

“I think he was only batting at five, wasn’t he? I don’t think they want him much lower than that, especially when they’ve got Hardik (Pandya), (Ravindra) Jadeja and Axar (Patel), they’ve got plenty of batting,” “I’m a big believer in giving your best batter as much time as you can in all formats of the game. Because if you keep them down the order, quite often you don’t get to use your best players and that’s the last thing you want. So I think the No.5 slot’s perfect for him and he’s just got to grow into that role there.”

When the fans heard these comments, they were quick to target Ponting and said that his opinions should not be considered. They also said that as an Australian he would obviously make statements which are not in favour of India. They also said this was a ploy from Ponting to keep Sanju Samson out of the Indian playing XI.

Australia has been the most consistent side when it comes to World Cups. Australia won World Cups in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015. The Kangaroos have been one of the strongest sides in ODI cricket and they would look to try and add another World Cup to their cabinet.
