‘Kya fekta hai yaar’ – From Gambhir, Harbhajan to Sehwag, cricketers react as Neeraj Chopra wins Gold at World Athletics Championships 2023

Star Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra created history as he won the gold medal in the 2023 World Athletics Championships for javelin throw. Chopra’s victory is surely a historic moment for Indian sports, as he became the first-ever Indian athlete to secure a gold medal in Budapest, Hungary. The Olympic gold medalist recorded a magnificent throw of 88.17 meters on his second attempt in the final, which was enough for him to win the contest. 

Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem also shined in the competition, as he threw 87.82 meters to bag the Siver medal, Nadeem has been performing on the international stage as he has also bagged a Commonwealth Games medal, while in that tournament Chopra opted out due to injury. The Bronze medal was won by Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic who stood on the podium in the third spot with 86.67 meters. 

We will celebrate once he comes back to India: Neeraj’s father Satish Kumar

“This is a very proud moment for our country as we got a gold medal in the World Championship as well. We will celebrate once Neeraj comes back to India,” said Neeraj’s father Satish Kumar to ANI. The star Indian athlete has the Gold medal in Olymlics,  the Diamond League and the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017, the Asian Games in 2018 and the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in 2018. Chopra’s fame and glory came after he won the Gold medal for India in the Tokoyo Olympics 2020. 

It is pertinent to mention that, along with Neeraj two Indians were also part of the men’s Javelin throw event, Kishore Jena with 84.77 metres and DP Manu with 84.14 meters finished fifth and sixth respectively, Before this, three Indians finished in the top eight of the event in World Championship. In the men’s 4x400m relay race, Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh quartet finished fifth in the event. Parul Chaudhary also broke the national record in the 3000-meter steeplechase as she finished 12th in this category.
