Ahead of the prestigious ODI World Cup 2023, things in Pakistan cricket are not looking nice. After various reports of the omission and selection of several players for the tournament, former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez has resigned from the technical committee of the board.

Hafeez took to Twitter to announce his resignation. In a social media post, he thanked PCB chief Zaka Ashraf for allowing him to work with the board. However, he did not mention any specific reason for his departure. “I decided to leave the Pakistan Cricket Technical Committee. I served as an honorary member. I would like to thank Zaka Ashraf SB for giving me this opportunity. I’m always available whenever Zaka Ashraf SB needs my honest suggestions for Pakistan cricket. My best wishes for Pakistan cricket, as always. Pakistan Zindabad,” wrote Hafeez.

Hafeez’s resignation came up after PCB organised a review meeting for Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023. The meeting was attended by Board President Zaka Ashraf, skipper Babar Azam, head coach Grant Bradburn, Chief Operating Officer Salman Nasser, Head of International Cricket Usman Wahla, and former skipper Misbah ul Haq.

Inzamam-ul-Haq opts out of the review meeting

It is  worth noting that in the review meeting, the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team, Inzamam-ul-Haq, did not show up. According to various media reports, Inzamam opted out of the meeting as he was not convinced of the timing of the meeting. Inzamam believes that right before a marquee tournament like the World Cup, teams should not focus on failures.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced their squad for the prestigious tournament. Without doing a lot of panicking, I just announced one change in the squad. The injured Naseem Shah has been replaced by Hasan Ali. Team management also announced three travelling reserves, including spinner Abrar Ahmed, pacer Zaman Khan, and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Harris.

Pakistan squad for the ODI World Cup 2023:

Babar Azam (C), Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafiq, Agha Salman, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Wasim Junior and Usama Mir.
