There was absolute ecstasy in the Chennai Super Kings camp as they trumped Gujarat Titans by five wickets. On the GT side there were scenes of agony as Mohit Sharma could not get the end result after nailing the first four balls when he had 13 to defend in the last over. Ravindra Jadeja turned the script in CSK’s favour by hitting the last two balls for six and four to give the Yellove Army their fifth title.

Mohit while talking to the Indian Express, elaborated on his plans as to how he wanted to execute in the final over. Mohit was coming into his last over with confidence as he had picked two wickets in his previous over of back-to-back deliveries. “My mind was very clear in what I wanted to do. In the nets, I had practised such situations and I have been in such scenarios before too. So I said let me bowl all balls yorkers and was backing my instinct,” he said. And did he? In his first four deliveries in that over, he bowled all yorkers, which included a dot ball and conceded three runs.

‘I tried my best’ – Mohit Sharma on his final over against CSK in 2023 IPL Final

The GT pacer was very sure of his strategy and had outlaid his plans clearly. Even then Hardik Pandya went up to him to have a chat after he had bowled his first four balls which disrupted his line of thought.  “They wanted to know what will be his plan of action. I said I will again try to bowl yorker. People are now saying this and that but frankly it has no meaning. I knew what I wanted to do.” Mohit said.

Jadeja took advantage of Mohit Sharma losing rhythm of the last two balls as he hit him for a six and a four. I ran and tried to bowl (yorker) again. I just wanted to be focussed and back myself. Whole IPL I have done that. The ball landed where it shouldn’t have and Jadeja got his bat. I tried, I tried my best,” The Haryana Pacer added.

“I couldn’t sleep. Sochta raha kya alag karta joh match jeet jaate. What if I could have bowled this ball or that ball? It’s not a nice feeling now. Somewhere something is missing but I’m trying to move on.” He said recollecting that heartbreaking moment that changed the 2023 IPL final.
