The exclusion of some of the senior players in the team like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the first two ODIs against Australia raised a lot of questions among the fans. Many doubted the logical purpose behind dropping them ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup, particularly in the series against a team like Australia. The fans questioned the Indian management about the motive behind dropping the two star cricketers.

In the place of Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain for the Asian Games 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad, was selected to play the first two ODIs of the series. In the place of Virat, Ravichandran Ashwin made a comeback to the ODI side, after 605 days. The choice of the selectors did not go well with the fans, as they wanted to see Rohit and Virat play as many matches as possible.

The fans seem to have finally got their answer, as the Indian coach Rahul Dravid gave his reasoning behind the decision. The Indian coach answered the questions during the press conference ahead of the first ODI against Australia. Dravid was asked a lot of questions. Many questions were regarding the plans to counter Australia in the series and in the big tournament.

‘The team wants Virat and Rohit fresh for the World Cup’ – Rahul Dravid

But the most important question was the motive behind the exclusion of Rohit and Virat from the first two ODIs against Australia. Speaking about the same, Dravid said “The team wants Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma fresh both physically and mentally for the World Cup hence they were rested for the first two ODIs.”

The Indian coach said that the management wants the senior players to be fresh ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. India will be playing three ODIs against Australia in the next few days. The venues for the series are Mohali, Rajkot, and Indore. The series will act as a preparatory task for both teams ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. India will play Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup in Chennai.
