‘Kohli ji, bas ek baar WC trophy dila do’ -Fans react as Virat Kohli says he wants to win 2023 World Cup with Indian Team
The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India. The Rohit Sharma-led side will aim to take the monkey off their backs that has been troubling them for ten years. For Virat Kohli, he will wants to win the World Cup to bring a smile to the hearts of a billion fans in India. The Men in Blue last won a world event in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni in England. From there on, India have done well in world events but have not been able to cross the final hurdle.
Kohli in an interview at Amaze and Greet said “I know the expectations are there to win the World Cup. The emotions of the people, the excitement, but please know that no one wants to win more than the players,” he said. When it came to the World Test Championship (WTC) they starred in two finals but were not able to get their hands on the coveted mace.
If social media was present during the 2011 World Cup, it would have been a nightmare – Virat Kohli
“I remember the amount of pressure there was on all the players during the 2011 World Cup. Thankfully there was no social media back then. It would have been a nightmare, honestly.” Kohli then spoke about the 2011 World Cup which he was a part of. It was the first major World Cup for the Delhi lad. In the tournament, Kohli struck a stroke-filled hundred against Bangladesh at Mirpur. In the game against West Indies in Chennai, he hit a vital half-century.
In many interviews, Kohli has said that he rates his knock of 35 against Sri Lanka highly. It came at a time when India were in a precarious position having lost both Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir made 91 and 97 respectively to take India home in a high-intensity final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Back then the Men in Blue lifted the World Cup trophy after 28 years.
