The 2023 ODI World Cup will be held in India for the fourth time. When the World Cup took place in India in 2011, the national side lifted the trophy after 28 years back then. The schedule for the tournament has been released. From Tuesday (27 June), there are 100 days left for the World Cup to begin. When the World Cup happened in 2011, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka were joint hosts as well. This time India will be hosting the tournament standalone.

The scheduled announcement was supposed to take place after the World Test Championship (WTC), but it got pushed further because of a request from the Pakistan Cricket Board, who had requested that their venues be for some particular, but that did not materialise. The first game of the World Cup will take place between Australia and New Zealand will happen on October 5, which will take place at Ahmedabad in Narendra Modi Stadium.

This will be the biggest World Cup ever – Geoff Allardice

The big game involving India and Pakistan will happen at the same venue. The Pakistan Cricket Board had asked for the venue to be changed for this game. India will play their first game against Australia in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Ten teams will battle against each other for the World Cup trophy, and ten venues will be used to showcase games in the event.

Cricket Governing Body’s Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said, “The Men’s Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour is an important milestone in the countdown to what will be the biggest Men’s Cricket World Cup ever. This Tour will see the iconic silverware meet heads of state, launch community initiatives, and support cricket development programmes in addition to visiting some of the most iconic landmarks around the globe.”

The World Cup will be held in October and November when the monsoon will be in force in India. The 2011 World Cup was held when summer was at its peak in the country. India will want to put up a good show in front of its loyal home fans and also break its nine-year world event drought.
