The dream of Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore of winning a maiden Indian Premier League title ended. Their dreams went in smoke when Gujarat Titans beat them by six wickets. This was on the back of a marvellous hundred from Shubman Gill. The GT opener made a sparkling 104 off 52 balls with five fours and eight sixes. RCB have not won an IPL trophy in 16 editions of the tournament.

Speaking on the same. Kevin Pietersen had a very interesting comment to make. “Time for VIRAT to make the move to the capital city…!”,  Pietersen wrote in a Tweet. RCB have not won a title in their IPL history. The former England cricketer said that it is time for Virat to make a move to Delhi Capitals for the next season. Pietersen was talking about what happened in the initial days of the IPL where players played for their respective city franchises.

Royal Challengers Bangalore were very inconsistent in Indian Premier League 2023

This was more prevalent between 2008-2010. Atul Wassan had a made a comment a long time ago about players playing for their city franchises. The former India cricketer wanted a permanent rule for the same to be made in place. But that did not happen at all. The last player to play for their respective city franchise was Gautam Gambhir in 2018 when he made the switch from Kolkata Knight Riders to Delhi Capitals.

RCB have had some positives, but they have largely had a very inconsistent season. The middle order has not fired for the Bold Army. Dinesh Karthik’s form has been insipid. The batting order was overdependent on the likes of Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. The death bowling for RCB has not been good. Only Mohammed Siraj has been RCB’s best bowler. The others have not quite fit the bill.

The team also lacked good backups in the spin department. Wanindu Hasaranga joined the team late and did not have the same impact as in IPL 2022. The young guns in the middle order such as Mahipal Lomror, Suyash Prabhudessai and Anuj Rawat did not justify being retained in IPL 2023.
