Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis is playing for Joburg Super Kings, the subsidiary of IPL reigning champions, Chennai Super Kings. He is also leading the SA20 side in the ongoing season just like last year. Talking about his association with the Super Kings in the IPL, started in 2011 and ended in 2021. Even though the Yellow Brigade tried to buy him back, the Royal Challengers Bangalore had the last laugh.

As the three-time winners don’t have a subsidiary in the South Africa league, the former Proteas skipper is playing for Joburg. Meanwhile, during the game against Durban Super Giants, the 39-year-old received a picture of him with MS Dhoni in CSK colours. The former went on to sign the image for the fan.

Faf du Plessis-led Jobrug Super Kings are yet to win a game in SA20

The Super Kings started the tournament by sharing a point with the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape. In the matches against MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants, the Johannesburg-based team has lost badly and are yet to win

After the game against DSG, Du Plessis said: “(Disadvantage batting second?) I don’t think it was one. It was an average wicket for both innings. Someone like Klaasen is someone who is a world apart in the country at the moment, but outside his innings it was hard for everyone. It felt like when we walked off, 140 was par, but proved not to be. I think 130 would’ve been nice. We felt like we should learn from their mistakes but it was a tough wicket. With the wind it was difficult to get boundaries when teams are bowling to a plan. (How to get back on track?) Individuals can pull you. You need someone to play that one good innings… and the confidence runs through in the team. (What can you say after this kind of loss?) Important to keep working on things you can get better. Need to look at what works at Paarl (their next venue) next.”
