‘Kejriwal ne Yogi ko hara diya’ – Fans in awe as Delhi beat UP by 42 runs in Women’s T20 League
The 5th match of the Women’s T20 League took place at the DY Patil Stadium. UP won the toss and chose to bowl first. With good batting conditions on offer, Delhi tore the UP bowlers apart. Meg Lanning got Delhi off to a good start with the bat and they lost their first wicket after the powerplay at 67. Shafali Verma made only 17 off 14 balls with one four and one six. Marizaine Kapp made 16 off 12 balls with two fours and was the second wicket to go at 96.
Lanning full of artiste made her way to a free flowing 70 off 42 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. The Australian played the field very well and used her experience to manoeuvre the field and get the gaps. She held the Delhi innings together. Lanning was provided support by Jemimah Rodrigues who made an unbeaten 34 off 22 balls with four fours. Delhi were provided the finishing touch in the end by Alice Capsey who scored 21 off 10 balls with one four and two sixes.

Jess Johansen made a cracking unbeaten 42 off 20 with three fours and three sixes to finish with a flourish. All these contributions helped Delhi to get to 211-4 in their 20 overs. In the second innings, UP got off to a fast start with Alyssa Healy making 24 off 17 balls with five fours but she was dismissed with the score at 29. Kiran Navgire was next to go at 31. Shewata Sherawat fell shortly afterwards.
Deepti Sharma made 20 off 12 balls before Shikha Pandey got her out. The ask was steep and UP were up against a huge total. Tahlia Mcgrath made 90 off 50 balls with 11 fours and four sixes. She offered resistance but it was too late for UP. In the end UP could score only 169-5 in their 20 overs. When it came to the ball for Delhi, Shikha took 1-18 in her four overs.
