‘Kane ne aata he kaam shuru kardiya’ – Fans react as New Zealand clinch crucial 8-wicket victory over Bangladesh in ODI World Cup 2023
New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first on a tricky M.A. Chidambaram wicket in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh. Litton Das skied out onto backward square leg on the opening delivery of the innings, giving the Kiwis a wicket. Bangladesh’s innings was attempted to be rebuilt by Tanzid Hasan, along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Both were dismissed by Lockie Ferguson, who was bowling extremely fast.
The seasoned combatants Shakib al Hasan, as well as Mushfiqur Rahim, then had their chance. They accomplished this with a 96-run partnership, during which Rahim took the initiative. Shakib battled the spinners but was unable to rotate the strike. After Matt Henry’s crucial off-cutter wicket of Rahim, the batting lacked any sort of impetus. Mahmudullah gave it his all, but he frequently hit the fielders, and 245 on the pitch fell far short of a respectable total.
Rachin Ravindra opened the batting today in the ODI World Cup for the first time but failed. However, Kane Williamson returned for his side and scored a superb half-ton. He waited for the loose balls today while playing extremely patiently. The team’s captain just refused to allow the pressure of a World Cup chase to get to them.
When Daryl Mitchell joined him, he had things under control and switched to cruise control. Williamson was forced to retire wounded due to an unfortunate thumb injury. When Mitchell smacked the opening ball for a six, everything appeared to be perfect. He was quite clear about his intentions from the first ball and appeared to be batting on separate grounds. In the end, NZ raced home to victory with eight wickets in hand.
“Everyone bowled really, created pressure”: Lockie Ferguson
Lockie Ferguson who won the player of the match for his three wickets spoke to the media. He spoke about the team effort in this game.
He said, “It was a classic team effort from the Black Caps. Everyone bowled really, created pressure throughout and then I could come in and do my role. Compared to what we had in Hyderabad this had more bounce, I tried to test it out early and if it is working then stick to it, I pushed them back and then bowled the full ball.”
