Kandy Falcons continues their dream run in the ongoing edition of the Lanka Premier League as they registered their 5th win in 6 games on Wednesday. Hasaranga and Co. beat Jaffna Kings by 10 runs to secure their position at the top of the table.

Andre Fletcher continues his fine form with the bat as he played another valuable knock of 35 runs in 22 balls for the team. However, wickets falling at the other end meant the Kandy Falcons didn’t get the momentum needed to shift gears in the first half of the innings.

As many as five wickets fell for just 69 runs in 11.3 overs. Big names such as C Brathwaite (0), Najibullah (0), and Hasaranga (7) all fell cheaply.

It was the West Indies all-rounder, Fabien Allen, however, who came to the team’s rescue. He played a brilliant knock of 47 runs in just 23 balls in the latter half to guide the team to a competitive score of 160 runs at the end of the first innings.

Fabien Allen hit 3 fours and as many as 4 sixes during his enterprising knock and played at a strike rate of 204.35.

In reply, Jaffna Kings didn’t get the start that they needed. Udana and Brathwaite took the vital wickets of Gurbaz (4) and de Silva (0) respectively to leave the team reeling at 5 for 2 inside the first two overs.

Avishka Fernando then switched gears and forged a 58-run partnership for the third wicket with Samarawickrama to lead the team’s recovery. The duo were taking the game away from the Falcons but Fabien Allen came to the team’s rescue.

He rattled Fernando’s stumps in the 8th over before Hasaranga accounted for crucial wickets of Shoaib Malik (8) and Samarwickrama (48) in the 13th and 15th over respectively.

Carlos Brathwaite produced another sensational bowling spell. He came back in the middle overs and picked the vital wickets of Perera (2), Wellalage (1), and Fuller (16) to completely throw Jaffna Kings out of the game.

Jaffna Kings lost the plot once Samarwickrama got out and they eventually fell 10 runs short of the target.

Twitter is abuzz with numerous reactions. Here’s a look at some of those:
