‘Kaha tha na, mere Karan-Arjun aayenge’ – Fans elated as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli make return in India’s T20I squad for series against Afghanistan

All the rumours and assumptions have come to a rest as the senior men’s selection committee of the Indian Cricket Board finally announced the 16-member squad. This India squad is for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The fans are also overjoyed as the regular skipper Rohit Sharma has made his comeback to the T20I squad. Alongside Rohit, the former skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli will also be in action for India in this T20I series.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been out of action from the T20I cricket. They were not in action since they played against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, in Adelaide.

The veteran duo returning to T20Is after a long hiatus of 15 months

During these 15 months in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and World number 1 T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav led Team India in the T20I cricket. Both Hardik and Suryakumar were active as the stand-in skipper for the men in blue in the shortest format of the game.

In a surprising turnaround of events, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are not a part of India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.

Skipper Rohit Sharma is set to open the innings for India in this T20I series.  Young opening batter in the white-ball format, Shubman Gill might accompany Rohit Sharma. On the other hand, former skipper Virat Kohli is expected to play at his usual number 3 position. Some of the big names from the middle order like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have been rested from the T20I series against Afghanistan.
