The former Pakistani swing bowler Mohammad Amir will be receiving his British passport by 2024. According to the reports, he’s likely to participate in Indian Premier League 2024 after becoming a citizen of the United Kingdom. The 31-year-old is well known for his swing bowling. Due to various reasons, most notably poor treatment from the management, the left-arm pacer decided to retire from international cricket at an early age. Though Pakistan tried to recall the swing bowler to their team, Amir didn’t accept the request.
The Gujjar Khan-born pacer was a sensation when he made his first appearance in international cricket. Wasim Akram found the talent of Mohammad Amir and described Amir to be a better bowler than he was at the age of 18. Amir played a key role in Pakistan’s maiden T20 World Cup title win in England. Amir picked 6 wickets in 7 games at an average of 29.16, a strike rate of 24.00, and an economy rate of 7.29. Amir was a handy batter in the lower order early in his career.
In 2010, Amir and Mohammad Asif were caught in corruption. Amir and Asif had deliberately bowled no-balls in the Lord’s Test in return for a payment from betters. Amir was handed a ban of five years for his involvement in the fixing scandal. Amir returned to international cricket in 2016 and performed well like he used to do before the ban. Amir performed well in Limited Overs Internationals and was selected in Pakistan’s squad for Champions Trophy 2017.
Amir played a crucial role in Pakistan winning their maiden Champions Trophy title. The left-arm pacer claimed 3/16 in the finals against India. In the 2019 World Cup, Amir was one of the best bowlers in the tournament. In 8 games, Amir picked 17 wickets at an average of 21.05, at a bowling strike rate of 25.76, at an economy of 4.90, including a 5-wicket haul in the tournament.
