‘Just brush it away and focus’- Sunil Gavaskar lashes at Indian players complaining about cold food in Sydney
Reports of the Indian team being served a cold lunch at the Sydney Cricket Grounds recently went viral. Fans and the media were perplexed by the treatment meted out to the national team, which is in Australia to compete against the rest of the world in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
Meanwhile, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has weighed in, saying that the focus should be on cricket rather than ‘external’ events. In an interview with Sports Today, he told the Indian team to “brush it off your face” like a fly.
“Everybody has a responsibility, but now it has been two days since this has happened. So, the team should only focus on the matches. These are all externals, these are the things that happen. This has gotta be looked like a fly which is hovering over your face, you just brush it away and focus on the game,” he said.
“I hope Indian team does that. Do not relax after what has happened against Pakistan. It is a memorable victory for the ages but now focus on the next matches. Top the group and keep on that winning rhythm,” he added.
When asked if this was due to differences in perceptions between different lifestyles prevalent in different parts of the world, the former cricketer replied: “Could well be, but these are just externals, you might as well forget about it and focus on the game.”
India takes on the Netherlands
In the meantime, the Indian team is currently playing against the Netherlands at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Men in Blue won the toss and decided to bat first. KL Rahul’s woes with the bat continued as he was dismissed after scoring just nine runs in the innings.
On the other hand, Rohit Sharam, the team captain and Rahul’s opening partner, struggled throughout his innings but managed a half-century. The team would look to win the match and get a good lead in the tournament.
