‘Jordan you absolute legend’ -Fans react as Chris Jordan blazes away at The Hundred with 70 off 32 balls
The fifth match of The Hundred took place between Welsh Fire and Southern Brave. The toss was won by Welsh Fire as they opted to bowl first. Southern Brave got off the wrong foot as Devon Conway fell for a run-a-ball four. Finn Allen hit a few boundaries at the other end as he made 21 off 15 balls with four fours. Then Allen got out when the score was 40-2 and this triggered a collapse of wickets. James Vince, George Garton, Tim David, James Fuller, Leus du Plooy and Rehan Ahmed fell in quick succession.
This meant that when Chris Jordan strode out to the crease, things were looking dire at 76-8. Then Jordan tore Welsh Fire’s attack to shreds as he smoked the ball to all parts. The bowlers from the opposition did not know what hit them. He hit 70 off 32 balls with three fours and seven sixes. His raging onslaught meant that Southern Brave got back into the match as they made their way to 147-8 in hundred deliveries. Haris Rauf was the best bowler for Welsh Fire as he too 3-27 in his 20 balls.
Southern Brave beat Welsh Fire by two runs
It was an innings from Jordan unlike no other. Jordan is known to concede a lot of runs in short-form cricket but today he gave the bowlers a taste of their own medicine. In the second innings, Welsh Fire did not get off to a good start when Joe Clarke was caught first ball by Devon Conway off Craig Overton. Luke Wells made 24 off 19 balls with two fours and one six before he fell. Stevie Eskinazi came in at three and made 31 off 18 balls with three fours and one six.
Besides this, there were contributions from Glenn Philips who hit 22 off 19 balls with three fours. David Willey hit 31 off 19 balls with two sixes. Ben Green made 16 off 9 balls with one four and one six, Although Welsh Fire got close in the end, Southern Brave plugged the runs in the final overs with some very effective death bowling and secured victory by a narrow margin off 2 runs.

Watching the meaningless 100 between, oh I don’t know, but anyway some decent fast bowling and a super innings from Chris Jordan. But why the daft on-screen graphics? Nice to have Stuart Broad on comms and what joy to have Ebony R-B back. Should’ve been on The Ashes.
