‘Jofra Archer, England ka Jasprit Bumrah hai’ – Fans react to star pacer getting ruled out for English summer

Following the recurrence of the stress fracture he suffered in his right elbow, Jofra Archer has been ruled out from competing in this summer’s Ashes as well as the Test against Ireland. Ben Foakes has been benched in favour of Jonny Bairstow, who is making his comeback, for England’s first Test of the season against Ireland at Lord’s on June 1.

Having a stress fracture in his right elbow in 2021, and another stress fracture to his back in 2022, and currently a recurrence of the elbow condition, Archer has had a terrible run of injuries. In January, Archer made two one-day international matches for England in South Africa, reaching 90 mph and producing career-best numbers. His recovery gained momentum in Bangladesh in March and everyone seemed to believe that he had fully recovered.

But while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, everything went awry. He missed 19 days of action, including the time that he travelled to Belgium following a procedure with his expert. He would be going home “to rest” after “pushing through the discomfort while recently playing,” it was announced last week. Since then, scans have shown that the stress fracture has returned.

Archer, who has struggled with a number of illnesses recently, played in only five matches this year and claimed two wickets. Last week, when he played the Chennai Super Kings, was his most recent game. The IPL announcement is vague on the extent of Archer’s illness, but it is probably his right elbow that has been troubling him since 2021. The speedster reportedly also travelled to Belgium during the competition to have a small procedure done on his elbow, according to sources. He returned to the group, but skipper Rohit Sharma once more excused him due to a “illness.” Chris Jordan had been announced as his replacement for the remainder of the season after he was ruled out of the current edition of the Indian Premier League.
