‘Jiyo Re Shera’- Fans react to Mohammad Shami’s second five wicket haul in ODI Cricket
The Indian bowlers showed their class yet again with the ball. Mohammad Shami came back to form with the ball as he ended with figures of 5/51 from his ten overs. The 5/51 was the career-best figure for the 33-year-old right-arm pace bowler. Shami’s previous best was 5/69 against England during the 2019 ODI World Cup.
India and Australia are playing a short 3-match ODI series, which began on Friday. The first game of the series was played at Mohali. The Australian team has a good record in ODI cricket against India in recent times. Team India had lost the ODI series earlier this year to Australia at home.
KL Rahul won the toss for India and chose to bowl first. Mohali has historically favoured the team chasing because of which the Indian team bowled first. Mohammad Siraj, the star of the Asia Cup final was rested as Shami was drafted in his place.
Shami’s career-best figures helped India bowl out Australia for 276 –
Mitchell Marsh was out for 4 when he was caught by Shubman Gill off Shami to give India the breakthrough. David Warner and Steve Smith then combined to steady the ship after the early jolt.
The veteran pair scored 94 runs for the 2nd wicket with Warner scoring his 29th ODI fifty. Just when the pair looked dangerous, Jadeja had Warner caught by Gill for 52. Steve Smith was out next when Shami had leg stump uprooted for 41.
Marnus Labuschagne survived a close run-out chance and went on to score 39. The 29-year-old was out when KL Rahul luckily had the Australian out stumped off Ashwin. Cameron Green was out for 31 after he was run out thanks to some good fielding by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis then added 60 runs for the 6th wicket. The Australian wicket-keeper scored a run-a-ball 45 before falling to Jasprit Bumrah. The star of the show was Shami who took his 2nd Fifer in ODI cricket.
The right-arm pacer got the wicket of Stoinis out bowled for 29. This was followed up with the wicket of Matthew Short for 2 caught by Surya Kumar Yadav. The 5th wicket came when Mohammad Shami’s slower ball foxed Sean Abbot as he got an inside edge to flatten his off pole.
