Jhulan Goswami to take mentor’s role with a Men’s Indian T20 League team- Reports
India’s veteran fast bowler Jhulan Goswami will be saying goodbye to International cricket after the third and final ODI of the tour of England. It is speculated that she will be entering into a contract with one of the Men’s teams of the Indian T20 League as a mentor in the next season.
The 39-year-old was named in India‘s squad for the three ODIs in England on Friday (August 19), after missing the previous 50-over series against Sri Lanka in July due to injury. The Indian Cricket Board included the veteran pacer after she was deemed fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
And as per reports, the board also informed that the last match of the ODI series scheduled for 24 September will be Goswami’s farewell match. The team management seems to have spoken to the ace pacer about looking into the future and assembling a group of young fast bowlers who can feature across formats.
Now, as Goswami who represented India for more than two decades will be hanging her boots, franchises and domestic teams are trying to rope in the experienced pacer to share her expertise with younger players. It’s reported that Goswami will take the mentorship role with one of the Men’s teams of the Indian T20 League in the 2023 season. Also, the Women’s Cricket legend has kept her options open for playing in the first edition of the Women’s Indian T20 League.
“ESPNcricinfo understands Goswami is keeping her options open for the inaugural women’s Indian T20 League that is scheduled for March 2023. She is also in discussions with a men’s Indian T20 League team for a mentoring role,” speculated a report. Also, the 39-year-old is also known to join Bengal’s domestic team as a mentor for the upcoming season. “…she will be a player and mentor for the Bengal women’s team for the upcoming domestic season,” the report further stated.
Goswami began her International career in March 2002 and over the course of 20 years, she has played 12 Tests, 68 201 ODIs, and 68 T20 internationals. She has taken 352 wickets in women’s Internationals across formats, which is the highest in women’s cricket.
