After suffering a defeat in their first match, Chennai Super Kings have now won two games in a row. CSK convincingly beat Mumbai Indians at their home by 7 wickets to earn their second win in the tournament. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians are still searching for their first win in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians were provided a perfect start by Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Both looked to be aggressive right from the onset, while the injury to Deepak Chahar made matters even worse for CSK.

However, a peach of a delivery from Tushar Deshpande turned things around upside down. He rattled the stumps of Rohit Sharma (21 off 13), who couldn’t convert the start into a big score.

The spinners then spun a web around the MI batting unit after the powerplay as wickets kept falling in short intervals. Ishan Kishan was looking good but miscued one only to get caught at long-on. Surykamar Yadav’s (1) bad luck continues, while Ravindra Jadeja took a blinder to dismiss Chris Green (12).

Tilak Varma (22 off 18) and Tim David (31 off 22) tried to rescue the team but neither of them could go on to score a big one. In the end, MI only managed to score 157 runs in the first innings. R

Ravindra Jadeja was the standout performer with the ball for CSK, claiming 3 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs. MI, though, started well with the ball as Jason Behrendorff claimed the vital wicket of Devon Conway (0) in the very first over.

However, come the fourth over and Ajinkya Rahane smashed Arshad Khan for 22 runs, which shifted the momentum completely. Rahane went on to play a sensational knock and also notched the fastest half-century in the IPL 2023.

He got out after scoring 61 off 27 balls at a strike rate of 225 but had done his job till then. Shivam Dube came in at number and smashed some lusty blows before departing for 28 off 26.

Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored the chase as he remained unbeaten on 40 off 36 balls. Thanks to those contributions, Chennai Super Kings chased down the score in just 18.1 overs.
