The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League is just a few days away. The opening match of the season will be hosted by the largest cricket stadium in the World – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The defending champions Gujarat will take on take on the Chennai franchise to kickstart the tournament on March 31st.
The tickets for the opening match have been sold out and more than 100000 people are expected to witness the contest between Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat and MS Dhoni’s Chennai. Fans will be wishing to glimpse of Dhoni as this is likely to be his last season in Chennai yellow.
However, former Chennai player Suresh Raina has given hints that Dhoni might continue in the 2024 Indian T20 League as well.
“Agle saal ho sakta hai ki Dhoni fir Indian T20 League khelein. Unka form achcha lag raha hai, batting achcha kar rahe hain. It all depends ke kaisa khelta hai this season. Kaafi challenging hoga, ek saal se tournament nahi khelein hai wo,” Raina said during after the Legends League Cricket match.
Although, Chennai will be looking to clinch the title for the fifth time and give Dhoni a perfect farewell. It looks like, Chennai has already chosen their next skipper after they bought Ben Stokes for INR 16.25 crore in the 2023 auction. However, Stokes will be missing from the final stages of the tournament to prepare for the Ashes. Chennai also roped Ajinkya Rahane for the base price of 50 lakh.
On the other hand, Gujarat has included Kane Williamson in their squad after roping him for INR 2 crore. Williamson has also led the Hyderabad franchise before and under his stint, Hyderabad made it into the finals of 2018.
