‘Its been an Honour’- Fans teary eyed as David de Gea bids farewell to Manchester United
Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea confirmed on Saturday that he will end his time at the club this summer and will move on to newer pastures as he feels it is the ‘right time to undertake a new challenge’. The man from Spain who came to United in 2011 has been in discussions with the club over a new deal for the last six months.
But the new deal did not take shape which meant De Gea and United had to part ways. De Gea had a very fruitful career at United with 545 games played and a record of 190 clean sheets. When the news came through, there was a lot of admiration for De Gea from his pals at United. Mata expressed a lot of shock over the news.
It was an honour to represent the institution – David de Gea
‘I don’t really want to believe it,’ the ex-Manchester United midfielder posted on social media.‘I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers. ‘The amount of times that you saved us… ‘Always professional, always sticking up for the club you love, your home. You deserve the best. Sad day for Manchester United. Legend.’ Marcus Rashford said, ‘You were here from my breakthrough, good luck with your next stepbrother.’ De Gea took home the Golden Glove award despite not having the best of seasons.
“I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club,” De Gea said. “I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt, to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world was an honour only bestows upon a few lucky footballers.”
“Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me.” De Gea added. United will have a big hole to fill and it remains to be seen who will come in and replace him.

He may have ran his course at the club but don't ever question how fantastic of a servant David De Gea was to Manchester United, yes it was the right time to move on but he was arguably one of the best shotstoppers the Premier League has ever seen, thanks for everything, David.

A part of United fans died yesterday when @D_DeGea left
No matter how much people wanted him out, everyone knew he tried to play the ETH way, its just he doesn't have the skill to play that
People don't see the trying part..But failures are seenIt's the nature of the sport pic.twitter.com/0Jwwevcpl7
