Babar Azam is one of the most loved cricketers in the world. The Pakistani captain has a lot of fans in and away from his country. Often fans have tried to get a glimpse of the star cricketer in different ways. The 28-year-old has a name for himself in cricket, especially in One Day Internationals. Wherever Babar plays, he gets very good support.

The Lahore-born cricketer is currently playing the 2023 season of the Lanka Premier League with the new franchise Colombo Strikers. The team lost their first match against the defending champions Jaffna Kings by 21 runs. Babar failed to perform in the first match. But in the second match, the opener scored fifty and helped his team win the match.

On a sluggish wicket in Colombo, the Strikers’ captain Niroshan Dickwella won the toss and elected to bat first. Babar Azam scored 59 runs in 52 balls which helped the Strikers to score 157 runs in their 20 overs. Although Babar scored fifty, he was criticized for his slow knock in his innings. It was evident that scoring was tough on the sluggish wicket.

Babar Azam cheered by the Colombo crowd

In the second innings, as Babar was fielding near the boundary ropes, a group of fans cheered the Pakistani captain by singing ‘Babar…Babar…Babar..’ with trumpets in the background and supported the Strikers. Babar acknowledged the crowd by clapping and waving towards the crowd. The fans loved the gesture of Azam and continued to view the match.

As B-Love Kandy batted, it was evident that scoring was difficult. The dry surface meant that the pitch was slow and hard to hit boundaries and even rotate strikes. Strikers’ bowlers collectively bowled well. Naseem Shah was great with the new ball and was aided well by Chamika Karunaratne. Jeffrey Vandersay and Matheesha Pathirana bowled extremely well in the middle overs by constantly picking the wickets. Mohammad Nawaz bowled well for a fifth bowler, as the Strikers claimed the maiden win in the history of the league.
