Sachin Tendulkar is called the God of cricket in India. He is revered and worshipped in the subcontinental country like none other. Ravi Shastri once said God gave Tendulkar a life so that he could play cricket. For a lot of people in the 90s, their lives were evolving as Tendulkar was growing. The Little Master’s cricket career came at a time when India was opening up to globalization and the country’s horizon was expanding. The master blaster turned 50 today and it is one of the many half-centuries in his glorious career

Tendulkar is one of the greatest players to have played the game. Technically sound and filled with poise and elegance, he was a stickler for technique and made sure that he got his stance, back lift, bat flow, helmet and gears in order before he could play every single shot. Tendulkar’s most delectable shots were his cover drive and the straight drive. A man that made a nation’s heartbeat collectively. People wanted to switch off their television sets as soon as Tendulkar got out.

Sachin Tendulkar has scored 18426 runs in ODI cricket for India

The master blaster has a plethora of records in his illustrious cricketing career. He has played 200 matches in Tests and scored 51 hundreds. He has made 15,921 runs in the red ball format. Tendulkar has 68 fifties and the highest score of 248. He has an average of 53.78. In ODIs, he has scored 18,426 runs at an average of 44.83 with 49 centuries. He was the first Indian to score a double hundred in ODI cricket.

The Little Master was given a nice little gift before he turned 50. His son, Arjun Tendulkar made his debut in the IPL for Mumbai Indians. Arjun gave a good account of himself in the first few games. He even defended 20 off the last over against Sunrisers Hyderabad and dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar.  Arjun played for Mumbai earlier in domestic cricket before switching to Goa.

The die-hard fans of Tendulkar will celebrate the fact that it has been yet another sweet 50 for him. It was a wonderful 24-year career. He has been the heartthrob of India which has changed over the years and now become a superpower in the current economic landscape.
