Indian and Pakistan armies clashed in the Kargil war in 1999, in which India blew the trumpet of its victory on 26 July. The impact of this war also rubbed on the cricket field between both nations. Not only did the relationship turn sour, but the people of both countries also started considering the contests that took place between both teams after this to be nothing less than a war.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who is the second name of controversy, made a shocking claim in 2020 when he revealed that he was also going to attack India with the Pakistan army in the Kargil war. He said that he was not only fully prepared for this but had also sacrificed crores of rupees in cricket.

“People hardly know about this story. I had an INR 1.7 cr contract with Nottingham. Then in 2002, I had another big contract. I left both when Kargil happened,” Akhtar said in an interview with Pakistan’s ARY News.

“I stood on the outskirts of Lahore. A general asked me what I’m doing there. I said war is about to start and we’ll die together. I left the county (cricket) twice like this and the counties were shocked. I wasn’t concerned about that. I called up my friends in Kashmir and told them I am ready to fight,” he added.

India and Pakistan will clash in Asia Cup 2023

The Kargil war was fought during May and July in the year 1999, in which thousands of soldiers of India and Pakistan sacrificed their lives. There is nothing new about India and Pakistan’s cold relationship, as both teams have also stopped playing against each other in the bilateral series. However, they still clash whenever they meet in any major world tournament.

However, this disclosure of Akhtar is surely interesting as till now his impatience against India was shown only on the cricket field. He earlier also said that in his initial days, the former Indian legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was called the ‘God of cricket’. But he knew that he also has his own style. He told that when he came into cricket, he wanted to take Sachin’s wicket on the first ball and he did it.
