The Indian Cricket Team is set to have a busy week during the ODI World Cup 2023. On Wednesday the Indian team is set to play Afghanistan in New Delhi. This will be followed by the game on Saturday against Pakistan. Ishan Kishan is set to continue as the opener for both the games.

Shubman Gill isn’t match fit yet as the young right-hander is yet to recover from dengue. The Indian opener had missed India’s opening game versus Australia in Chennai on Sunday. Rohit Sharma and his men were rattled early while chasing a score of 200 thanks to the Australian pace bowlers.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s 165-run stand for the 4^th wicket helped India win the game by six wickets. While the Indian cricket fans are celebrating the win there is a huge cause of concern for the team management.

Ishan Kishan to open for India in the next two games –

India’s next two games against Afghanistan and Pakistan will see Ishan Kishan continue as the opener. The 25-year-old was out for a first-ball duck on Sunday caught in the slips off Mitchell Starc.

The loss of Shubman Gill has opened avenues for Ishan Kishan to continue opening with Rohit Sharma. The youngster was in fine form leading up to the ODI World Cup 2023. Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant half-century against Pakistan during the 2023 Asia Cup game at Pallekele.

As per reports, Shubman Gill could come back into the team for the game against Bangladesh. The Indian team is set to play their neighbours from the east on the 19^th of October.

Shubman Gill has been discharged from hospital and is on the mend. The Indian opener though is still feeling weak and the Indian team’s medical department is monitoring him closely.

Former Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar has come up with tips for Ishan Kishan. While speaking on his YouTube channel, Akhtar said “Ishan Kishan should be patient and needs to play according to the situation. I know there is aggression and exuberance of youth, and he wants to stamp his authority but he needs to show patience”.
