Ishant Sharma gives out stunning revelation regarding shocking incident featuring Zaheer Khan and Virat Kohli
India had a great start to the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle as they beat West Indies 1-0 in the two-match Test series. The Men in Blue registered a comfortable win of an innings and 141 runs. The second match at Trinidad was drawn due to rain. The Men in Blue could have won the second Test as well if not for rain. The second Test had good action on the field. There was a lot of chatter in the commentary box as well during the rain breaks. This led to some unheard stories of the Indian Team coming out.
Ishant Sharma who served as Hindi commentator during the West Indies series brought out a very feisty anecdote that involved Zaheer Khan and former India captain Virat Kohli. The incident was shared on Jio Cinema which was the digital streaming partner for the series. While Ishant took the lead on the incident, Zaheer who was also there went on and then revealed the exact details of the conversation and how it panned out. The incident happened in 2014 during India’s tour of New Zealand in the second Test match.
Virat would not have felt good about dropping the catch- Zaheer Khan
Virat Kohli who had made a name for himself with his fielding, shelled a chance off Zaheer that could have sent Brendon McCullum back to the pavilion. India suffered due to the dropped catch as McCullum helped himself to a triple ton which resulted in the match being drawn. “We were playing in New Zealand. Brendon McCullum had scored 300 runs and when Virat Kohli dropped a catch, I remembered that this happened around lunch. Virat said sorry to Zak and Zak said, ‘No worries, we’ll get him out.’ During tea, Kohli said sorry again and Zak told him not to worry. On the third day when Kohli apologized during tea, Zak told him, ‘You’ve ended my career!’,” Ishant said.
“I didn’t say that. I said that there were only two players, the first was Kiran More who dropped Graham Gooch and he scored 300. After that, it’s Virat Kohli who dropped a catch and someone scored 300. Then, he told me not to talk like that, naturally as he wouldn’t have felt good about that. The catch was dropped and the runs were scored,” Zaheer said giving out the exact details of the conversation. While McCullum scored a masterful 302. Zaheer took a five-wicket haul in the match.
