India wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has again missed the last round of Ranji Trophy 2024 as his name is not included in the playing XI for Jharkhand match against Rajasthan in Elite group A at the Keenan Stadium in Jharkhand. Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that players should play Ranji Trophy matches.

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season Ishan Kishan has not played a single game for Jharkhand as he has taken a break from cricket in the middle of India’s tour of South Africa due to mental fatigue. His name was not considered for the Afghanistan T20I series and the Test series against England.

Earlier this month India’s head coach Rahul Dravid stated that to get selected for the national team Ishan Kishan must play some domestic cricket first. For the Jharkhand team in Ranji Trophy Kumar Kushagra is behind the stumps for the last match against Rajasthan. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan has started training for the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Mumbai India’s captain Hardik Pandya.

Board and selectors will not tolerate this – Jay Shah

While unveiling the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot Indian Cricket Board secretary stated that the Board and selectors will not tolerate any reason from the players who have central contracts.

“They have been informed on the phone already and I’m going to write letters as well that if your chairman of selectors, your coach and your captain are asking for it then you will have to play red-ball cricket,” Shah said.

“(It applies to) whoever is fit and young – we are not going to tolerate any other tantrums. This message is for all centrally contracted players. Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the chairman of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him a free hand to let him take his own calls freely,” Jay Shah added.

Deepak Chahar has also missed matches for Rajasthan in Jamshedpur. Shreyas Iyer has missed Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai as he picked injury while playing for India in the Test series against England.
