India started off the ODI series against West Indies on a bright note as they beat West Indies by five wickets at Trinidad. In a dominant bowling performance from India, they skittled the West Indies for 114 after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja were too hot to handle for the Men in Maroon as Kuldeep Yadav picked up 4-6 in his 3-over spell. Jadeja took 3-37 in his 6-over spell.

In the run chase, Ishan Kishan led India’s charge as the left-hander struck 52 off 56 balls with seven fours and one six. There were some hiccups in the middle but the Men in Blue chased down the target of 115 in just 22.5 overs. Kishan opened the innings for India and Rohit Sharma came in at 6. This step left former cricketer Aakash Chopra surprised. Ahead of the second ODI, he said that Samson will not get any more games in the ODI series as they will ask Kishan to open the innings. When this article was written Samson was included in the second ODI against West Indies.

It is slightly unfortunate that Sanju Samson will not get a chance – Aakash Chopra

“There might be a question in your mind that can Sanju play. Sanju Samson will not be able to play now. It is because only one match has happened, you didn’t play him in the first match and you didn’t get Ishan Kishan to bat at No. 4 as well,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel. “You are thinking about Suryakumar Yadav to bat at No. 6 at the moment. So no matter how much outrage is there, this story is not going to fly at this point in time. It is a slightly unfortunate fact that Sanju Samson will not get a chance.” Chopra added.

Many fans opined on Chopra’s thoughts as to India batting first come the second ODI irrespective of the nature of the pitch. India could do this as it would be of great help in the upcoming World Cup. India have not won a World event for a nine-year period and will be looking to break the streak in the World Cup.
