Team India is gearing up for the much-anticipated two-match Test series against South Africa to register their first ever win on South African soil. However, the excitement was tinged with concern, as three key players were notably absent from the initial squad.

The promising batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad found himself sidelined due to a finger injury which sustained during the preceding ODI series. It’s a blow not just for Gaikwad, but for Team India’s batting lineup before such an important test series.

The seasoned fast bowler Mohammed Shami, a vital component of India’s pace batter will also miss the test series. His absence was attributed to an ankle injury and is currently recovering in the NCA.

Out of all, the most surprising omission was of the wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan. In a surprising turn of events, young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan opted out of the series citing “personal reasons.” A veil of ambiguity surrounded Ishan Kishan’s decision, as the Indian Cricket Board initially cited “personal reasons” without delving into specifics.

However, according to the new reports the real reason of Ishan Kishan’s departure was revealed. Not too everyone’s surprise, it was disclosed that Ishan Kishan’s absence was rooted in “mental fatigue.

Sources revealed that Ishan had formally approached the team management, expressing his mental fatigue and seeking a temporary break from cricket. This plea, was made a week prior, as a result of relentless travel over the past year. The team management also resonated with Ishan Kishan’s situation and granted him a leave from the South Africa test series.

Lack of consistent opportunities also played a key role in mental fatigue

Lack of consistent chances has also been one of the reason of mental fatigue for Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s cricketing journey in the past year has been marked by incessant travel and sporadic playing opportunities.

The continuous travelling and inconsistent ruaffeced Kishan’s mental well-being. The Indian Cricket Board, in response to Ishan Kishan’s plea, promptly acknowledged the need for a replacement and the Board Secretary Jay Shah in a press release has roped in KS Bharat in place of Ishan Kishan for the Test series against South Africa.
