IPL 2024: Did Delhi Capitals approach Mumbai Indians to sign Rohit Sharma during Trade window?

This would have been the biggest trade of IPL history.

Cricket fans over the past few days are yet to come to grips with Mumbai Indians replacing Rohit Sharma as the skipper of the team. Even before the news can die down, there is more jittery news for the MI fans.

As per a report on Sports Today it has come to light that Delhi Capitals had made an offer for Rohit Sharma. Mumbai Indians did not go ahead with the deal as they value the 36-year-old at the franchise as a huge asset.

Speculations are rife about Rohit Sharma’s next move after Hardik Pandya was given the MI captaincy. It has been reported that Rohit is more than happy to play under Hardik Pandya for the upcoming season. The major question though remains if Rohit Sharma will still be part of the MI set-up ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions.

Delhi Capitals make huge offer for Rohit Sharma –

IPL side Delhi Capitals had come up with a trade request for Rohit Sharma and tried to initiate talks with Mumbai Indians. The reason behind this move was that Rishabh Pant is set to play as an impact player during IPL 2024.

The 26-year-old is nearing full fitness after his car accident in late December 2022. It is being said that Pant is likely to attain full fitness during the India vs England Test Series. The Indian Cricket Board though doesn’t want to hurry the youngster into action soon and wants to tread carefully.

David Warner was the captain of Delhi Capitals which saw them finish 9th in the table. It is worth noting that along with RCB and PBKS, Delhi are the only side not to win the IPL title. These three teams have been part of the league since its inception in 2008.

Rohit Sharma’s removal meanwhile has seen Mumbai Indians lose their fan base quickly. Instagram has seen a tremendous drop with the active followers list now standing at 12.3 Million a sharp fall from the 13.5 Million followers they had. Many fans have shown their anger and disgust via social media at the apparent disrespect shown to Rohit Sharma.

The 36-year-old will be seen playing for India against South Africa in the short Test Series starting on 26th December. India had won the first ODI on Sunday by 8 wickets after beating the home team with over 200 balls left to play.
