Celebrities have been leading the charge in purchasing sports franchises ever since franchise sports leagues made their debut in India sixteen years ago with the Indian Premier League. Actors have consistently made investments in these multimillion-dollar franchises, whether it’s Abhishek Bachchan in the Pro Kabaddi League, or Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, or Shilpa Shetty in the Indian Premier League. However, there is a single name that is associated with not just one or two, but four teams across various sports. A South superstar owns the most sports teams.

One of the wealthiest actors in India is Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, who got there by winning big on Bigg Boss Telugu, making successful films, and making astute business choices. These choices include making bets on different sports teams. In order to own the Mahi Racing Team India, which participates in the FIM Supersport World Championship, a superbike racing platform, Nagarjuna teamed up with cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2012.

South superstar Nagarjuna is a true sports fan:

The next year, Nagarjuna joined the Mumbai Masters franchise of the Indian Badminton League as a co-owner. Here, Sunil Gavaskar, another legendary figure in Indian cricket, was his co-owner. In addition, the actor has invested in the Telugu Warriors team in the Celebrity Cricket League, an exhibition cricket league that fields teams made up of Indian actors. In 2017, Nagarjuna added football, the most popular sport in the world, to his repertoire of sports. He and fellow Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi, along with Sachin Tendulkar, led a consortium that purchased the Kerala Blasters team in the Indian Super League.

One of the most well-known Indian cricket team owners is Shah Rukh Khan. To be fair, the actor owns four teams in the same sport, all affiliated with the same franchise. Teams from his Knight Riders franchise compete in local T20 leagues and are based in Los Angeles, Trinidad, Kolkata, and Cape Town. Furthermore, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty are co-owners of the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings, respectively, in the Indian Premier League.

One of Abhishek Bachchan’s PKL teams is the Jaipur Pink Panthers, and Ranbir Kapoor owns a share in the Mumbai City ISL team. Not too long ago, several other actors purchased teams in the upcoming Indian Street Premier League.
