The second ODI between Afghanistan and Pakistan turned out to be a thrilling one. In a game of so many twists and turns, Pakistan finally managed to be the winning side, as they beat Afghanistan by a single wicket. On a slow pitch like Hambantota, the batters of both teams shined and put on a memorable performance. It was one of the best ODI games in recent times.

Opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted a total of 300 runs in their 50 overs, which was a very good total. The opening batters from Afghanistan played so well and helped their team achieve the highest ODI total against Pakistan. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibragim Zadran, the two youngsters in the lineup of Afghanistan, put on a mammoth 227 runs for the opening wicket, which was very good to watch.

While Zadran started slowly, Gurbaz took the attack on the bowlers in the first few overs. As the track slowed down, the batters had to play slow. After the duo got settled, they launched the attack on Pakistan’s bowlers. While Zadran scored 80(101), it was Gurbaz who shined with the bat by registering his career-best 151(151), which included 14 boundaries and 3 sixes.

Thrilling finish for the match

Chasing the target, Pakistan was in a good rhythm. Fakhar Zaman perished after giving a good start. The innings were continued by the two anchors, Imam-Ul-Haq and Babar Azam, who scored fifty respectively. While Azam scored 53 runs in 66 balls, Imam scored 91 runs in 105 deliveries. But the wicket of the two set batters started a collapse for Pakistan. From 170/1 at one stage, Pakistan collapsed to 211/6 in no time.

It required a brilliant effort from the lower-order batters to win the match for Pakistan. Shadab Khan and Co did exactly that. Pakistan’s All-rounder smashed the bowlers for fun with some support from the other end. Towards the end, Shadab was run out by Fazalhaq Farooqi when 11 runs were needed in 6 balls with a couple of wickets in hand. But Naseem finished the match for Pakistan.
