The Indian Cricket Board wants to conduct the auctions of the Indian T20 League for the 2023 edition somewhere around mid-December. The most likely date is 16th December. A temporary blueprint has been discussed with the franchises who got an intimation from the Indian cricket board.
Since the mega auction happened last year, it will be a mini auction this year and it will be on a much smaller scale. Where the auction would be held has not been zeroed in as a venue is yet to be confirmed. With regards to the dates of the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League, reports suggest that the league would start from the fourth week of March and the other big news is that the home and away format comes back after being shelved in the last 3 editions of the league.
The salary purse is 95 crores for this edition which means there will be an increase of five crores as compared to the last edition. Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Indian Cricket Board, has made it clear that the Indian T20 League will return to its normal format of home and away, and Ganguly has also communicated the same to the state associations so that they are kept in the loop about this matter.
“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” the Indian Cricket Board president said in a letter to the state units.
Due to covid restrictions, the last three editions of the Indian T20 League were confined to a lesser number of venues to cut down on travel and prevent the spread of the virus. In the last edition, the Indian T20 League was entirely held in Mumbai and Pune across four grounds.
With regards to the women’s Indian T20 League Sourav Ganguly said: “The Indian Cricket board is currently working on the much-awaited Women’s IPL. We are expecting to start the first season early next year. More details on this will follow in due course.”
